Iowa State Fair - America's 250 - 2026

Celebrate America 250 at the Iowa State Fair

In 2026, people across the United States commemorate the founding of our nation on the 250th anniversary of the writing of the Declaration of Independence. All Iowans are invited to reflect on our founding principles of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness throughout 2026 with events and programs in their communities, including at the 2026 Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, August 13-23.

The Iowa State Fair celebrates the spirit of America with our own nod to our nation’s founding. Much like “The Spirit of Iowa ‘76” that was held during the 1976 Iowa State Fair celebrating the nation’s bicentennial, attractions in 2026 focus on agriculture, industry and the American dream. Iowans have always sustained themselves and fed others across the nation and around the world. Celebrating America’s 250th anniversary will allow the Iowa State Fair to salute the sacrifices of the great Americans who built our country, and celebrate the innovation that will power our prosperous future.

We’ve always believed Iowa is home to the greatest State Fair, and we’re proud to continue our patriotic and Americana traditions. We are celebrating America’s 250th birthday in 2026 with a once-in-a-generation celebration that brings our red, white and blue to life.

2026 National Anthem

In recognition of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America (America250), the Iowa State Fair invites law enforcement and military groups to apply for the honor of performing the national anthem in a daily ceremonial broadcast honoring service and sacrifice.

Each morning of the Iowa State Fair, the national anthem is broadcast across the Fairgrounds at 10 a.m., marking the official start of the day and serving as a shared moment of patriotism and reflection.

Participation is limited to recognized law enforcement agencies, military units, veteran organizations, honor guards and affiliated ensembles.
