Delicious School Lunches Win State Fair Awards

Rosa Woods of Des Moines won first place and a $25 cash award in the My Favorite Sack Lunch competition judged Saturday, August 12, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Nora Petersen of Knoxville claimed second place and $15. Jordan Wells of Pleasant Hill earned third place and $10.

Contestants were challenged to create an award-worthy nutritional school sack lunch with no more than six different lunch items.

Entries were judged on nutritional value, creativity and taste.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
