Food - Inventive Rhubarb

Patty Hunt of Ankeny won first place and a $125 cash award in the Inventive Rhubarb competition, judged Saturday, August 13, at the 2022 Iowa State Fair.

Entrants were tasked to create an award winning dish that uses rhubarb. Pies and crisps were the only items not allowed to be entered.

Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines captured second place and $75. Susie Jones of Winterset earned third place and $50.

Entries were judged on taste, creativity and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 128 divisions, 615 classes and nearly 6,300 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air Adventure Park.
