Cheryl Pike of Johnston won first place and a $100 cash award in the Hot Beef Sundae contest, judged Monday, at the 2021 Iowa State Fair.
Joyce Larson of New Market claimed second place and $75. Rose Ridgway of Johnston earned third place and $50.
In the Youth class, Brooklynn Sedlock of Indianola won first place and $100. Joseph Ridgway of Johnston earned second place and $75.
Tieysa Wood of Des Moines won first place and $100 in the Most Creative class.
Contestants were challenged to create a beef sundae using any cut of 100% real beef and any combination of other ingredients.
Entries were judged on taste, creativity and appearance.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 134 divisions, 603 classes and nearly 6500 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air.
