Hot Dish Recipes Win at State Fair

DeeDee Kennedy of Des Moines won first place and $1,000 in the Food Bank of Iowa Chopped competition judged Sunday, August 20, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Sarah Olson of Des Moines won second place and $500. Maggie Stalzer of Haverhill claimed third place and $250. Rachel Peterson of Knoxville received honorable mention.

Entries were judged on flavor, ease of preparation and appearance

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
