Food: Fleet Farm Canned Savory Sauces, Meats and Poultry

Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines won First Place Overall and the Reserve Sweepstakes award in the Fleet Farm Canned Savory Sauces, Meats and Poultry Contest, judged Tuesday, prior to the start of the 2021 Iowa State Fair.

Rod Zeitler of Iowa City earned both Second and Third Place honors and the Sweepstakes award.

Entries in classes that will be tasted were judged on flavor, consistency, appearance and food safety. Entries in classes that will not be tasted were judged on appearance, consistency, selection of ingredients and food safety.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 134 divisions, 603 classes and nearly 6500 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air.
