Food: Eurofin's Best Homemade Hot Sauce

Some Like It Hot in State Fair Hot Sauce Contest

Alicia Rigdon of Mediapolis won first place and a $750 cash award in the Eurofins Best Homemade Hot Sauce contest judged Saturday, August 10, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Amber Wagner of Prairie City earned second place and $250. Martha Kunkle of Carlisle claimed third place and $100.

Along with the cash award, each of the top three contestants receive a Scoville scale heat analysis of their entry by Eurofins Nutrition Analysis Center.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance, aroma and use of heat.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
