Top Cake Decorators Claim State Fair Awards

Top professional and amateur cake decorators vied for top honors in the Decorated Cakes competition judged Monday, August 7, prior to the start of the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Brenda Klyn of Pella won the Sweepstakes Award. Sweet Snax of Fort Dodge claimed Reserve Sweepstakes honors.

Entries were judges on execution, difficulty, appearance, neatness, originality, design, and edible applications.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
