Food: Comfy Coffee Cake

Norwalk Baker Claims State Fair Coffee Cake Crown

Meredith Willey of Norwalk won first place and a $100 cash award in the Comfy Coffee Cake competition judged Saturday, August 17, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Jessica Denner of Polk City earned second place and $50. Marsha Kephart of Carlisle claimed third place and $25.

Contestants were tasked with creating award-winning, made from scratch, coffee cakes.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance and story.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
