Food - Bud Elwell's Old Fashioned Fudge

Marianne Carlson of Jefferson won first place and a $250 cash award in the Bud Elwell’s Old Fashioned Fudge competition, judged Saturday, August 13, at the 2022 Iowa State Fair.

Robin Tarbell-Thomas of Centerville claimed second place and $100. Susie Jones of Winterset captured third place and $50.

Competitors were tasked to make a traditional fudge that does not contain marshmallows, marshmallow cream, peanut butter or other flavorings.

Entries were judged on taste and texture.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 128 divisions, 615 classes and nearly 6,300 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air Adventure Park.
