Food: Bring Your Best Dip

Cooks from around the state created decadent dips in hopes of claiming top honors in the Bring Your Best Dip contest, judged Wednesday, August 18, at the 2021 Iowa State Fair.

Sheryl Davis of Ames won first place and a $175 cash award in the Cold Dip class. Cheryl Pike of Johnston took second place and $50. Kyle Barton of West Des Moines earned third place and $25.

Judges also awarded Honorable Mention to Michelle Henderson of Ankeny.

In the Hot Dip class, Sharon Gates of Des Moines won first place and $175. Susie Jones of Winterset earned second place and $50. Rebecca Howe of West Des Moines claimed third place and $25.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance, ease of preparation and name of the dip.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 134 divisions, 603 classes and nearly 6500 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air.
