One Pan Dishes Win State Fair Awards

Sarah Olson of Des Moines won first place and a $50 cash award in the 9 by 13 Versatility competition judged Saturday, August 12, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Brooklynn Sedlock of Des Moines earned second place and $25. Olivia Smith of Winterset claimed third place and $10.

Judges also awarded Honorable Mention to Malik Kooi of Des Moines.

Contestants were tasked with making an award-winning dish, side dish or bread that can be made in a 9 by 13 pan.

Entries were judged on taste and presentation.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
