Agriculture
Iowa's finest produce is showcased at the Fair every year.
If it has to do with farming, you’ll find it at the Iowa State Fair. Whether you just want to get up close and personal with farm animals, shop for farm equipment or introduce your children to Iowa’s agricultural heritage, nothing compares to the Iowa State Fair.
John Deere Agriculture Building
Open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Agriculture Building, generally shortened to the Ag Building, is home to Iowa’s finest displays of agricultural commodities, including prize-winning floriculture, jumbo veggies and an apiary exhibit. Constructed in 1904, the Ag Building was one of the first permanent structures on the Fairgrounds. It is one of the best remaining examples of exposition-style architecture in the world, but most people know it best as the home of the world-famous Butter Cow. Fairgoers say no trip to the Fair is complete until you’ve seen it!
Just to the West, the Discovery Gardens are a beautiful spot to rest. The area includes a stunning variety of plants and is maintained by the Polk County Master Gardeners. Kids love running through the vine-covered tunnel.
Little Hands on the Farm
