Yummy Nummy in your Tummy Cookies

The top cookie creators put their best baking to the test in the Nan’s Nummiest Cookies competition, judged Thursday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
DeeDee Kennedy of Des Moines won first place in the Chocolate Cookies class. Marcia Rorabaugh of Colfax took second place and Ann Carter of Carlisle earned third place.
Rose Ridgway of Johnston won first place in the Frosted Cut Out Cookies class. Terri Treft of Sioux City earned second place and Rorabaugh claimed third place.
Entries were judged on flavor, appearance and texture.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
