Young Des Moines Cook Wins Sack Lunch Contest

Morgun Nolte of Menlo won first place, $15, and a lunch box in the My School Sack Lunch competition, judged Saturday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Lyra Pepper of Ankeny claimed second place and $10. Lydia Hunter of Waukee earned third place and $5.
The contestants age twelve and under were challenged to prepare a lunch you take to school, as well as decorate the sack.
Entries were judged on full-rounded lunch, taste, ease of preparation and decoration of sack.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
