Sweet Victory for Pella Confectioner at the Iowa State Fair

The top candy makers and confectioners from across the state put their chocolate creations to the test in the A ‘Chocolate A-Fair’ competition sponsored by Chocolate Storybook, judged Friday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Brenda Becker of Pella won first place and a $50 cash award in the Adult class competition. Terri Treft of Sioux City claimed second place and $25, and Julie Petersen of Knoxville earned third place and $15.
Ariela Phillips of Indianola won first place in the Youth division.
Entrants were tasked with creating an entry using milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate. Entries were judged on creativity, taste and appearance.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
