On-the-Go Snacks Win at State Fair

Cooks from around the state entered their best satisfying snacks in the Snack Time with Live Healthy Iowa competition judged Friday, August 18, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Dawn Shaw of Pella won first place and a $75 gift card.

Paige Hilgerson of West Des Moines earned second place and a $50 gift card. Nicki Studer of Indianola claimed third place and a $25 gift card.

Contestants were tasked with making a healthy, satisfying and appealing snack that works well for an on-the-go lifestyle.

Entries were judged on nutrition, taste and appearance

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
