Polk City Baker Wins State Fair Cobbler Title

Jamie Buelt of Polk City won first place and a $500 cash award in the Best Fruit Cobbler, Bettie or Buckle competition, judged Saturday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Denise Sagar of Clive earned second place and $250. Sara Vanderploeg of Des Moines claimed third place and $125.
Entries were judged on taste, originality an appearance.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
