Ladies Chicken Calling

No Fowl Notes Sounded in State Fair Chicken Calling Contest

Kristin Massa of Bondurant and Cala McGregor of Nashua tied for first place in the Ladies Chicken Calling Contest judged Thursday, August 10, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Fifteen contestants, some from as far away as Colorado and California, put their fowl calling linguistics to the test.

Robyn Carney of Centennial, Co., claimed second place.

Lizzy Orey of Indianola earned third place honors.

The contest was part of “Rural Americana Olde Tyme Competitions” in Farm Bureau Pioneer Hall. A first prize of $5 and ribbons were awarded to each class.
