Top Tortilla Creations Win State Fair Awards

Dawn Shaw of Pella won first place and a $200 grocery gift card in the Tortilla Creations La Banderita competition judged Thursday, August 17, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines captured second place and a $100 grocery gift card. Diane Rauh of Des Moines earned third place and a $50 grocery gift card.

Entries that featured La Banderita Tortillas were judged on taste.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
