Susie Jones of Winterset won First Place Overall and a $300 cash award in the Nostalgic Comfort Foods contest, judged Tuesday, August 17, at the 2021 Iowa State Fair.

Bridget Lottman of Norwalk earned second place and $200. Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines claimed third place and $100.

Contestants were challenged to create an antique, retro or nostalgic dish that reminded judges of the years of old.

Entries were judged on taste, originality and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 134 divisions, 603 classes and nearly 6500 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air.
