Iowa City Cook Named State Fair Marmalade Master
Rod Zeitler of Iowa City won First and Second Places Overall, the Sweepstakes Award and a total of $250 in gift cards in the Fleet Farm Canned Marmalades competition judged Wednesday, August 9, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.
Dennis Toby Williams of Colfax earned Third Place Overall and a $50 gift card.
Williams and Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines tied for Reserve Sweepstakes honors.
Marmalades are soft fruit jellies containing small pieces of fruit or peel evenly suspended in translucent jelly. Marmalade often contains citrus fruit.
Entries were judges on flavor, consistency, appearance and food safety.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
