Food - Dei Fratelli Tomato Creations

The creativity of cooks was put to the test in the Dei Fratelli Tomato Creations competition, judged Saturday, August 13, at the 2022 Iowa State Fair.

Entrants were challenged to create an award winning dish using Dei Fratelli tomatoes.

Patty Hunt of Ankeny won first place and a $100 grocery gift card.

Mary Tibbetts of Johnston captured second place and a $50 grocery gift card. Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines earned third place and a $25 grocery gift card.

Entries were judged on taste.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 128 divisions, 615 classes and nearly 6,300 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air Adventure Park.
