Bakers Bring Their Favorites to an Iowa State Fair Food Contest

Bakers put their skills to the test in the My Favorite Pie! contest judged Wednesday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Deanna Smith of Des Moines claimed first place and $200 for her entry. Chris Pike of Johnston won second place and $150. Third place and $100 cash prize was awarded to Belinda Myers of Osceola.
Participants were asked to bake their favorite pie and explain why it is their favorite. Entries were judged on taste and presentation.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
