Tuesday, August 8, 2017 Des Moines, IA
The Patty and Jim Cownie Cultural Center will be filled with art and hands-on learning at the 2017 Iowa State Fair. Home to Iowa’s largest art show, the Cultural Center features Make and Take projects, art activities, a 150 foot Panoramic Photo Display, a painting class and much more.
Fairgoers can let their creative flags fly with the Make and Take projects available in the Cultural Center including magnets, wire jewelry and name bracelets. Young fairgoers can also participate in fun hands-on activities at Art Attack in the courtyard.
Always a Fair favorite, the state’s largest art show will showcase exhibits in the areas of fine arts, photography, creative arts, wood projects, doll house and miniature room displays. More than 1,600 exhibits will be on display.
Eleven days of live demonstrations and working exhibits also offer Fairgoers the opportunity to see art in action, with artists demonstrating wheel thrown pottery, glass fusing, china painting and more.
At the 2016 Iowa State Fair, photographers Tim Olson and Tony Moline used 1920’s equipment to shoot a 150-foot long panoramic portrait showcasing roughly 800 visitors, exhibitors and vendors during the Iowa State Fair. This year, the panoramic print will be on display in the Cultural Center Atrium, along with excerpts from interviews.
