Young bakers put their best sugar cookies to the test at the My Most Creative C&H Sugar Cookie competition judged Friday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
In the 11 to 15 year old class, Samantha Hilbert of Urbandale won first place. Alex Mineart of Cedar Rapids claimed second place and Clarissa Ridgway of Johnston earned third place.
In the 6 to 10 year old class, Emerson Hilbert of Urbandale won first place. Peter Bandstra of Oskaloosa earned second place.
Entries were judged on creativity, taste and appearance.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
