Food: Fleet Farm Canned Fruit Butters

August 13, 2021

The best fruit butter makers put their top creations to the test in the Fleet Farm Canned Fruit Butters Contest, judged Wednesday, prior to the start of the 2021 Iowa State Fair.

Rod Zeitler of Iowa City won First Place Overall and the Sweepstakes Award.

Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines claimed Second Place Overall and the Reserve Sweepstakes Award.

Martha Kunkle of Carlisle earned Third Place Overall.

Fruit butters are made of fruit pulp and sugar cooked together to a thick consistency, but not to a jellied state. Fruit butters often contain spices.
