Young Bakers Win Iowa State Fair Cupcake Crowns

Clarissa Ridgway of Johnston won first place and a $35 cash award in the C&H Sweet Iowa Cupcake Creation competition judged Thursday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.
Brooklyn Sedlock of Indianola earned second place and Alex Mineart of Cedar Rapids claimed third place.
Judges also awarded honorable mention to Ashlin Williams of Pleasant Hill.
This competition was open to bakers between the ages of 8 and 17.
Entries were judged taste, creativity and workmanship.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
