Young Bakers Create Award Winning Bar Cookies

Alex Mineart of Cedar Rapids won first place and a $50 gift card in the King Arthur Flour Kids and Bar Cookies competition, judged Sunday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Lauren Gilbert of West Des Moines claimed second place and Samantha Hilbert of Urbandale earned third place.
Entries were judged on taste, texture and creativity.
Young cooks between the ages of 12 and 17 were challenged to create bar cookies worthy of a State Fair ribbon.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
