Veggies Star in Fair Healthy Creations Contest

Diane Rauh of Des Moines won first place and a $50 gift card in the Healthy Creations a Variety of Veggies Competition, judged Friday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Katie Van Sloun of Waukee claimed second place and Holly Houg of Urbandale earned third place.
Contestants were challenged to create an award worthy dish that features at least three different vegetables and is low in added sugar, fat and calories.
Entries were judged on nutrition, taste and appearance.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
