Angela Miller of West Des Moines won first place and a $60 cash award in the Death by Chocolate Raspberry contest, judged Monday, August 16, at the 2021 Iowa State Fair.
Larry Mahlstedt of Des Moines claimed second place and $30. Ann Gillotti of Ankeny earned third place and $10.
Judges also awarded Honorable Mention to Diane Rauh of Des Moines.
Contestants were tasked with creating award winning desserts featuring a combination of raspberry and chocolate.
Entries were judged on flavor, creativity and presentation.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 134 divisions, 603 classes and nearly 6500 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air.
