Templeton Rye Featured as Main Dessert Ingredient in Fair Contest

Holly Houg of Urbandale won first place and a $500 cash award in the Best Templeton Rye Dessert competition, judged Friday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Joyce Larson of New Market earned second place and $300. Olivia Smith of Winterset claimed third place and $200.
Contestants were tasked to create an award worthy dessert that features Templeton Rye as the main ingredient.
Entries were judged on flavor, presentation and best use of Templeton Rye.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
