Food: Fleet Farm Classic Iowa Canned Jellies

Food: Fleet Farm Classic Iowa Canned Jellies

August 17, 2021

Michelle Westphal of Waterloo won First Place Overall in the Fleet Farm Classic Iowa Canned Jellies contest, judged Wednesday, August 11, prior to the start of the 2021 Iowa State Fair.

Rod Zeitler of Iowa City earned Second and Third Places Overall and the Sweepstakes Award. Tonya Hardy of Osceola claimed the Reserve Sweepstakes honor.

Jellies are a semi-soild mixture generally made with fruit juice and sugar. Flavored liquids other than fruit juice may also be used. Jelly is translucent and tender enough to cut easily with a spoon, yet firm enough to hold its shape when turned from a jar.

Entries were judged on flavor, consistency, appearance and food safety.
