State Fair Coffee Cake Crown Won by Jefferson Baker

Marianne Carlson of Jefferson won first place and a $50 cash award in the Country or Crazy Coffee Cakes competition, judged Saturday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Cassandra Hyatt of Ankeny earned second place and Samantha Streff of West Des Moines claimed third place.
Judges also awarded Honorable Mention to Natalie Ridgway of Johnston.
Contestants were challenged to create an award worthy coffee cake and accompany the baked good with a story about its recipe.
Entries were judged on taste, appearance and story.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
