Spirit Lake Confectioner Claims State Fair Filled Chocolate Crown

Harold Magg of Spirit Lake won first place in the Beaverdale Confections Filled Chocolates competition judged Tuesday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.
Morgan Bump of Urbandale claimed second place and Sara Carlson of Des Moines earned third place.
Judged also awarded Honorable Mention to Susan Hanke of Clive.
Contestants were challenged to create an award worthy filled chocolate candy.
Entries were judged on flavor, appearance and texture.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
