Holy Recipes Take the Spotlight in Fair Church Cookbook Cooking Contest

Iowa church cookbooks provided the recipes used in the Our Iowa Church Cookbook Favorites competition judged Saturday, August 11, at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.
Entrants were challenged to prepare a recipe from an Iowa church cookbook using ingredients from an Iowa garden.
Marcia Trevillyan of West Des Moines won first place.
Cynthia Murphy of Des Moines claimed second place and Phyllis Olson of Newton earned third place.
Judges also awarded Honorable Mention to Sharon Lesan of Ankeny.
Entries were judged on taste, appearance, creativity and recipe origin.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
