Food - Nostalgic Comfort Food

Tiffany Smith of Earlham won First Place Overall and a $300 cash award in the Nostalgic Comfort Food competition judged Tuesday, August 16, at the 2022 Iowa State Fair.

Susan Schultz of Haverhill earned Second Place Overall and $200. Cheryl Pike of Johnston claimed Third Place Overall and $100.

Contestants were challenged to create an award winning made from scratch dish that is either retro, nostalgic or antique.

Entries were judged on taste, originality and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 128 divisions, 615 classes and nearly 6,300 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air Adventure Park.
