Mystery Sack Creations Prove Victorious at Iowa State Fair

Drew Gilbert of West Des Moines won first place and $300 in the Iowa State Fair Mystery Sack – Youth competition, judged Sunday, August 20, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Josie Best of Cedar Falls won second place and $150. Josiah Derr of Clive received third place and $75.

Entries were judged on taste and best use of products.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
