West Des Moines Cook’s Pretzel Prowess Wins State Fair Title

Jill Gilbert of West Des Moines won first place and a $75 gift card in the Dakota Style Pretzel Kraving Creation competition judged Thursday, August 10, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Jacqueline Riekena of West Des Moines earned second place and a $50 gift card. Samantha Streff of Ankeny claimed third place and a $25 gift card.

Entries were judged on taste.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
