Food - Comfy Coffee Cakes

Marianne Carlson of Jefferson won first place and a $100 cash award in the Comfy Coffee Cakes competition, judged Saturday, August 13, at the 2022 Iowa State Fair.

Entrants were challenged to bake an award winning scratch-made coffee cake and accompany the cake with a story relevant to the baked creation.

Cindy Paulsen of Cedar Rapids earned second place and $50. Judy Kiburz-Harrison of Tingley claimed third place.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance and story.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 128 divisions, 615 classes and nearly 6,300 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air Adventure Park.
