Des Moines Cook Benefits From the Fruit of Her Labors at State Fair

Cynthia Murphy of Des Moines won First Place Overall in the Iowa Orchards Creations competition, judged Friday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Kay Smith of Des Moines earned Second Place Overall.
Contestants were tasked to create an award worthy dessert featuring apples, cherries or peaches.
Entries were judged on taste, creativity and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
