Central Iowa Bakers Win State Fair Ribbons

Bakers from across the state squared off in the Krusteaz Kreations competition judged Friday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.
Competitors were tasked to create muffins, breads of coffee cakes using a Krusteaz mix.
Phyllis Olson of Newton won first place in the Breads and Coffee Cakes division of competition. Mary Burr of Iowa City earned second place and Jim Donoghue of Des Moines claimed third place.
Natalie Ridgway of Des Moines won first place in the Muffin division. Anna Doud of Clive earned second place and Meredith Willey of Norwalk claimed third place.
Entries were judged on appearance, taste and originality.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
