Big Cakes for Little Kids Capture Ribbons for Grown-Up Bakers

Jennifer Bartles of Des Moines won first in the Have Your Cake and Eat It Too competition, judged Tuesday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Sally Kilkenny of Granger earned second place and Alisa Woods of Des Moines took third place.
Entrants were challenged to create a cake for kids between the ages of 2 and 10.
Entries were judged on detail, originality, flavor, texture and eye appeal.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
