Best Bundt Bakers Win State Fair Awards

Bakers from across the state brought their best Bundt cakes to Des Moines to compete in the Nordic Ware Bundt Cakes competition, judged Sunday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Olivia Smith of Winterset won first place in the Classic Bundt Cake class. Cassandra Hyatt of Ankeny earned second place and Jordyn Siepker of Des Moines claimed third place.
In the Creative Bundt Cake class, Eileen Gannon of Des Moines won first place. Kate Keylon of Clive claimed second place and Jennifer Bartles of Des Moines earned third place.
Entries were judged on appearance, moistness, flavor and texture.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
