Ankeny Cook Wins Fair Noodle Title

The humble noodle was raised to a lofty status in Use Your Noodle competition, judged Saturday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Patty Hunt of Ankeny won first place and a $100 cash award. Matthew Phoenix of Ankeny earned second place and $60. Sharon Gates of Des Moines claimed third place and $40.
Entries were judged taste, appearance and texture.
Contestants were challenged to create an award worthy dish using any type of store bought packaged noodle and a protein.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
