With so much adventure and excitement to experience here at the Iowa State Fair, here’s a brief recap of what you may have missed today and what to expect tomorrow.
Ann Carter of Carlisle won first place and a $200 gift card in the Best Pie Using Kellogg and Keebler Products competition. Terri Sinclair of Cumming won second place and a $150 gift card. Belinda Myers of Osceola earned third place and a $100 gift card. Judges also awarded Honorable Mention to Lana Shope of Indianola.
Contestants were tasked to use a Kellogg or Keebler pie crust or graham cracker crust as the foundation of an award worthy pie.
“The Read Deal” won the 12thannual Outhouse Races Tuesday at the 2015 Iowa State Fair. Team members Amanda Outhouse, Abbi Outhouse, Hanna Outhouse, and Brittnie True were awarded $300 in cash for besting their competition in style and speed.
Teams, composed of three pushers and one driver, construct their own outhouses. During the race, teams push the outhouses to a toilet where the drivers must clean off the toilet seat without using their hands. Then the drivers search for a corn cob buried in a cattle trough, change a roll of toilet paper and return to the outhouses where the teams push them back to the starting point.
Coming Up Thursday, August 20
- Alabama takes to the Grandstand Stage beginning at 8 p.m. Fireworks will follow the concert.
- Sir-Mix-A-Lot appears on the MidAmerican Energy Stage at 8 p.m. for a free show.
- Country Rapper Big Smo appears at the Susan Knapp Amphitheater for a free show beginning at 8 p.m.
