Call for Entries: Decorate Your Own Piece of State Fair History

Now is your chance to be a part of the Iowa State Fair 2017 theme, “Nothing Compares to State Fair Thrills,” by decorating your very own State Fair Ferris wheel cement statue. In 2017, the Fair will be showcasing a limited number of 3 ¼ foot tall Iowa State Fair Ferris wheels to celebrate the grand opening of new ride areas called Thrill Parks. The statues will be displayed throughout the grounds, August 10-20, 2017. Individuals, clubs, companies, families, friends, school groups and more are invited to submit their own designs for these statues by May 15.
To enter, submit your entry form along with a written description and drawing of your proposed design. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Iowa State Fair website: http://www.iowastatefair.org/participate/fairtime-contests/. All entries must be postmarked or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 15. Chosen designs will be notified by June 1, a $140 entry fee is due at statue pick up.
A panel of judges will award prizes for completed statues based on originality, creativeness and overall look in both the professional and novice divisions. Participants will be judged in the “professional” category if 25 percent or more of their income comes from graphic design or art. All winners receive a prize package including an Iowa State Fair plaque, admission tickets, parking and more. The first, second and third place winners also receive $150, $100 and $50 cash prizes, respectively. Winner’s names will be displayed with their sculptures during the Fair.
