We welcome all members of the working press to the 2017 Iowa State Fair, August 10-20, and we offer a limited number of gate admissions and media credentials at no charge to assist with your Fair coverage. 

Credential requests must be received by the Iowa State Fair Marketing Department by July 24. Requests received after this date are not guaranteed credentials. All requests are subject to approval based on credential guidelines. Credentials are mailed via the United States Postal Service.  No credentials will be mailed after July 31. Requests not mailed by July 31 will be held at our Volunteer Office and will be available to pick-up August 10-20 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  The Volunteer Office is located at East 30th and Dean Avenue.  

To make the best use of limited credentials, please consider the following guidelines when applying:

  • Accredited print, radio and television outlets
  • Freelancers with proof of news, photography or video assignment from the assigning company
  • Online services that are non-content based

Media credentials will not be granted to:

  • Sales staff
  • Non-affiliates 
  • Spouses, children, or family members of media 
  • Freelancers without proof of news assignment
  • Organizations that take photos and/or video for resale
  • Bloggers not on assignment for an accredited media outlet, independent bloggers or blogs/websites that have primarily owner or user-generated content

Media credentials will be considered on a case-by-case basis for:

  • Persons or organizations who are writing or gathering material for books, movies, or news coverage
  • Journalists working on documentaries or special projects
  • Persons using social media outlets for news and events coverage

The Fair Marketing Department reserves the right to review a person or organization's primary purpose for attending. Organizations and individuals that do not qualify for media credentials are welcome to purchase admission tickets as needed. 

Organizations must receive expressed permission from the Iowa State Fair to film or photograph within the Fairgrounds. Please send requests to and include your organization name, a link or copy of your publication and the purpose/subject matter of your coverage.  Failure to comply with any of these procedures or unauthorized use of a credential (including attempts to sell) may result in refusal, forfeiture of credential privileges and removal from the premises and/or prosecution.

Media credentials will be required for all coverage in 2017. You can pick up your credentials in the working media room located on the lower West side of the Administration Building on the Fairgrounds.


Satellite Truck

Please indicate if you will be bringing a satellite truck as it will need special credentials to enter the grounds. Please send an email with the license plate number of the vehicle, size of vehicle and any vehicle specific needs to Also, include cell phone number and full contact information for an on-call staff member should any issues arise. Arrangements for satellite truck parking must be made in advance due to limited space availability. 

Ticketed Fair Events

No filming, taping, photography or recording of any Grandstand show or event without prior consent and agreement. Requests for backstage or photo passes and/or reviewer seats are referred to the artist's management and/or label. Approved photos of Grandstand performances are available from the Iowa State Fair upon request at at least 48 hours prior to the show. 

Working Media Room

All approved media need to check in in the Media Room to receive their media badge. For safety purposes, this badge allows our public safety, volunteers, and other employees know that you are approved for interviews, photographs, and video production. The air-conditioned media room is located in the Administration building and is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Internet access, computer hook ups, electricity, desk space, news releases and restrooms are available. Entrance is located on the lower West side of the Administration building.
