Perhaps best-known for their Grammy Award-winning “Drops of Jupiter” and chart-topping singles “Meet Virginia” and “Calling All Angels,” Train has been creating music for 15 years. Their latest album “Save Me San Francisco” has also garnered attention with its popular singles “Hey Soul Sister,” “If It’s Love,” and “Marry Me.”
With an organic sound grounded in blues and folk-infused rock, Train credits the city of San Francisco for cultivating their identity. Their latest album marks a return to their roots and includes “super catchy riffs and melodies” and songs “about love in every way you can think about it,” according to vocalist Pat Monahan.
The band’s first self-titled album was followed by its sophomore release “Drops of Jupiter” in 2001. Following its albums “My Private Nation” and “For Me, It’s You,” the band took a three year hiatus before releasing its fifth and most recent album. With more than four million total albums sold and three albums peaking in the Billboard Top 10, Train has established itself as a powerful musical force.
Maroon 5
Maroon 5’s Grammy Award-winning blend of rock and pop has sold millions of albums. From their debut album “Songs About Jane” to their most recent release “Hands All Over,” Maroon 5 has continued to write and perform all their own material that bends the standards of rock and roll. Their latest single “Misery” joins a string of hits, including “This Love,” “She Will Be Loved,” and “If I Never See Your Face Again.”
The band spent three months in Switzerland working on their latest album, “Hands All Over,” with producer Mutt Lange. Bassist Mickey Madden notes, “The sheer beauty and pace of our Swiss environs made it easy to clear our heads if we hit a creative wall; in many ways, it is an ideal creative environment.”
Before becoming Maroon 5, the band was known as Kara’s Flowers and performed music in a style that Madden describes as fluxing from heavy and brooding to big, bright pop to classic rock and folk. When the band entered a new phase with a new member and new songs, they picked a new name, too. As for the origin of their name, the band maintains that is a secret known only to the five of them and Billy Joel.
