Young cooks accepted the challenge to create award-winning sweets in the McDonalds’ Dessert competition judged Friday during the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Lucas Burr of Cedar Rapidswon first place. Nick Johnson of West Des Moines earned second place, and Emma Kennedy of Birmingham claimed third place. Judges also awarded an Honorable Mention to Connor Burr of Cedar Rapids.
Entries were judged on taste and appearance.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2012 Iowa State Fair, August 9-19.
